KUGTI SANCTUARY

The Kugti sanctuary is accessible via Pathankot, Chamba, Brahmar, Harser, and then a 14 km soft trek into the Kugti village in the sanctuary. It spreads out in an area of 378.87 sq. km. with an altitude range from 2250 meters to 6044 meters.

An abundance of flora and fauna can also be found in the region. Mammals like Himalayan black bear, brown bear, leopard cat, musk deer, and goral and birds like jungle babbler, red-billed babbler, great hill barbet, black bul-bul, redvented bul-bul, white cheeked bul-bul, crested bunting, greyhead bunting, etc. are be easily found in the sanctuary.

   
   

This sanctuary is rich in high-altitude Himalayan wildlife, and is one of the last homes of Himalayan Tahr in Himachal Pradesh. It is also well known as a source of many medicinal palnts. Abundant water resources, many originating from glaciers, and a diverse topography add to the attraction of the area. To the west, it is connected with Tundah sanctuary by a forest corridor. There is an annual pilgrimage by thousands of devotees to the Mani Mahesh Temple inside the sanctuary.
