The Great Himalayan National Park is located at a distance of 60 km from Kullu with an altitude range varying from 1700 meters to a mighty 5800 meters. A considerably vast area of 754.4 sq. km. consists watersheds of three rivers namely Jiwa, Sanj, and Tirthan. As a result of its 4100 meter elevation range the Great Himalayan National Park has a diversity of zones with their representative flora and fauna such as alpine, glacial, temperate, and sub tropical forests.
The Great Himalayan National Park offers the casual hiker and serious trekker a wide range of experience in the natural wonders of the park. The trail ranges from relatively easy day walks in the Ecozone to challenging week or longer treks through spectacular terrain.
EcoTourism, a program introduced by the State Government of Himachal Pradesh, helps in improving the economic condition of the villagers that the park beholds and the vegetation as well.
Besides the vegetation conservation and a huge variety of herbs and shrubs present in the region, there is a large variety of animal and bird species found in the area. It is a home for a rare animal such as a musk deer and other wildlife like leopards, Himalayan black bear, wild sheep aka bharal, brown bears to name a few. |
