MANALI

Owing its name to Manu, an Indian mythological sage, Manali provides a roadway to Ladakh. Manali has a vast religious belief as well with some Tibetian Monastries in the region and also a minor percentage following the culture. Other religious destinations that can be visited along with Manali are the Hadimba Devi Temple, Manu temple, Tibetian Monastries, and at a distance of 5 km from Manali is Arjun Gufa, a place where Arjun, one of the Pandava brothers, is believed to have performed his penance.

Manali also provides white-water rafting and the Mountaineering Institute in Manali organizes skiing, rock climbing, and mountaineering courses.

Rohtang Pass is another attractive excursion that can be planned from Manali at 51 km. The pass once served as a crucial trade route and still remains a gateway to Lahaul and Spiti in Ladakh and is accessible from the period of June through November.

   
   

Nehru Kund, located at a distance of 6 km from Manali, is a natural sulphur bath destination of the region. The sulphur baths are of a remarkable medicational value.
