| PANGOT |
Pangot is just 15 km away from the rush of one of the most famous hill stations of the county, i.e. NAINITAL. It is an island of tranquility at 6000 ft above the sea level, where you can either lie soaking in the sun or do some vigorous walking in the dense oak -and –rhododendron forests. Pangot is a great place for bird watching and a trekker’s paradise. The walk from the Kilbury Forest Rest House to Pangot is very popular, A long trail leading up to the Naini Peak, 8563 ft, offers picture–postcard view of the Himalaya. This track is full of canary fly-catchers, white throat laughing thrushes, blackbirds and titmice. |
The entire drive from Nainital to Pangot is through the forested area of Cheena Peak Range via Snow View Point and Kilbury, the main habitats for excellent birding. One can see a variety of Himalayan species along the way such as lammergeier, Himalayan griffon, blue-winged minla, spotted & slaty-backed forktail, rufous-bellied woodpecker, rufous-bellied niltava, khalij pheasant, variety of thrushes etc. Almost 150 bird species have been recorded at Pangot and surrounding areas. |
| By Rail :Overnight air-conditioned train from Old Delhi Railway Station (ETD 22:45 hrs) to Kathgodam (ETA 06:15 hrs) and then a further 2 hours drive by car/taxi to Pangot via Nainital. |
| By Road :Drive from Delhi via Kathgodam and Nainital is logged at 7½ hours. |

The numerous perennial & seasonal creeks are home to an amazing variety of flora and fauna including the leopard, yellow-throated Himalayan martins, Himalayan palm civet, ghoral, barking deer, sambhar etc. |
