Paonta Sahib, a small picturesque town, is situated on the bank of the river Yamuna. This place holds significance as it has been the holy Guru Gobind Singh's (the 10th guru of the Sikhs). It is here, where he penned the `Dasam Granth'. There is a Gurudwara dedicated to Guru Gobind Singh, who spent five years here. It is a bustling town. The story goes that the place acquired its name after the Guru has lost an ornament that he wore on his foot, known as Paonta.The Gurudwara houses some interesting spots that traces the events in the life of Guru Gobind Singh. There is Shri Talab Asthan where he disbursed salaries, and the Shri Dastar Asthan where he judged the turban - tying competitions. The Kavi Durbar was the venue of the poetic symposia. A memorial dedicated to Kalpi Rishi, and a museum showcasing the pens of the Guru and the weapons of those times, are also located within the boundaries of the Gurudwara. |
