With an area of 10.25 sq. km., the Shimla Water Catchment Sanctuary is situated adjacent to the National Highway 22 and immediately north of Kufri. The altitude ranges from 1500 meters to 3324 meters.

Being connected to the Chail Sanctuary in the south, this sanctuary provides sighting of rhesus macaque, yellow-throated marten, leopard, Indian muntjac, goral, porcupine etc.
